George Cross was one of the nine children of Charlie and Lucy Emma Cross. The family lived in Hook Norton which is where George probably went to school. The children's father died in 1934 leaving their mother to bring them up alone. George worked as a railway signalman at Aynho before the war and was also a member of the Territorial Army in Banbury.
George was killed during the fall of Singapore on 15th February 1942.
We are very grateful to George's youngest brother Geoff for this information. Geoff was just seven when his older brother went away.
