    Ernest lived with his parents at the Golden Lion pub in Lower Cherwell Street. He had a sister known as Donny. His uncle ran the Strugglers Inn pub in Mill Lane (the pub sign now hangs upstairs in Banbury Museum). Ernest's grandparents James and Eliza Soden lived at 54 Fish Street.
    When Ernest was called up, he told his father that he would not see him again.
